Evaluation

Your Final Piece of written work is also in some ways the most important as it can get you a lot of marks!

2-4 A4 Sheets

Write an essay-style evaluation covering the following points:

1.    A brief introduction: ‘My major project in year 11 has been to design and make a ….’ Or ‘ I have now completed my charity box project and …

2.    Refer back to your design brief and specification and compare your final outcome with your original intentions. Has it turned out the way you wanted? Does it satisfy the brief and the specification? Which part of the specification were you not able to meet? Discuss in detail why or why not?

3.    Describe the different stages of making your design. What worked well, what did not? What problems did you run into and how did you overcome there? Detail is important at this point. What would you do differently if you had to do it again?

4.    List any modifications you have had to make to your design? Why? (A few diagrams/sketches may be useful here)

5.    At what stages did you consider the ‘quality’ of your product? What quality Control/Assurance procedures did you use to make sure that you achieved the best possible quality work? Describe in detail. (This is IMPORTANT! – many marks!)

6.    If you had to redesign or make your product, what improvements can you think of ensure that it is of a higher quality? List at least three or four improvements with justifications. What changes would you have to make if a batch of your product had to be made?

7.    Is your product cost effective? You have obviously spent many hours designing and making it but are there unnecessary details or time-consuming processes involved in making your product? Which parts of your design could be eliminated to make your design cheaper. Especially if it was to be put into production.

8.    Test your design. Show it to friends. Family and teachers. Record their comments. You could even hand out a mini-questionnaire and record results in pie chart form. What improvements did they suggest? Do you agree?

9.    Finally, end on a positive note with any additional comments about additional things you may have learnt or comment on your overall performance in this project with suggestions for how you could have improved the marks further.

I know this may seem “Long” as you would put it! Just look at the bright side; this is the end of your coursework…
